چکیده

The modular multilevel converter is considered the state-of-the-art power electronic solution for high-power high-voltage applications that require a DC stage and operate with fixed frequency at their AC terminals. However, in AC-AC variable-frequency applications, it has been proved this topology presents an unnecessarily large number of components intolerably high submodule-capacitor voltage ripple low frequencies. matrix was proposed as promising alternative medium-voltage electrical-machine drives since presented improved performance frequencies reduced comparison to resulting costs efficiency. Even though, one solutions stands out most machine drives, some operational drawbacks such unstable behavior under unbalanced grid conditions extremely complex internal control modulation. Recently, new named series presenting attractive characteristics frequencies, conditions, straightforward modulation, which are important advantages compared converter. Nonetheless, demonstrated paper, component count poor Thus, proposed, enhanced version preserves previously mentioned advantageous efficiency considerably other three topologies, cost, size weight.

Capacitor Voltage Monitoring in Modular Multilevel Converter

A Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) is an attractive solution for power conversion without transformers. As MMC consists of cascade connections and floating dc capacitors, it requires continuous voltage monitoring. An adaptive observer design has been presented to estimate the capacitor voltages from the measurement of arm currents. This work introduces a capacitance value of the cell capacito...

High-voltage multilevel converter with regeneration capability

This paper presents a multilevel converter with regeneration capability. The converter uses several power cells connected in series, each working with reduced voltage and with an active front end at the line side. This paper presents the following: 1) the control method of each cell; 2) the use of phase-shifting techniques to reduce the current and voltage distortion; and 3) criteria to select ...

A Direct Power Feeding System for AC Railway Networks Using Modular Multilevel Converter

Abstract Traditional railway power supply systems impose substantial power quality problems (PQ) on the utility network, such as unbalance, harmonics and a large amount of reactive power. This paper proposes a topology based on three-phase to single-phase modular multilevel converters (MMC) to obviate these problems. The MMC based traction substations (TSS) are connected directly to the utili...

High Voltage Dc-dc Converter Using a Series Stacked Topology

The converter will be used to charge a large battery bank as well as supplying power to a constant power absorbing load. It will have to operate in either constant current mode or constant voltage mode, depending on the state of charge of the battery bank. Peak current mode control is implemented to give this functionality to the converter. The series stack topology also allows interleaved swit...

Modified Modular Multilevel Converter

The modular multilevel converter (MMC) is receiving extensive research interests in high/medium voltage applications due to its modularity, scalability, reliability, high voltage capability and excellent harmonic performance. The submodule capacitors are usually quite bulky since they have to withstand fundamental frequency voltage fluctuations. To reduce the capacitance of these capacitors, th...
